🌱 Women Climate Resilient Accelerators Training Empowers 50 Grassroots Women in Kabarole District

From 22nd to 24th July, Kiko Town Council in Kabarole District became a hub of learning, innovation, and action during the Women Climate Resilient Accelerators Training. Over the course of three impactful days, 50 grassroots women came together to gain knowledge, share experiences, and acquire practical skills to combat climate change in their communities.

Day 1: Understanding Climate Change and Its Local Impact

The training began with an in-depth session on climate change, focusing on its causes, effects, and the specific challenges faced within Kabarole District. Participants discussed how shifting weather patterns, deforestation, and unsustainable energy practices are affecting agriculture, water sources, and community livelihoods. The session emphasized that women, as key community caretakers, have a central role in driving local climate action.

Day 2: Practical Solutions for Forest Restoration & Clean Energy

The second day moved from theory to hands-on learning. Women were trained in:

  • Charcoal briquette making – An eco-friendly alternative to traditional charcoal that reduces deforestation and promotes waste recycling.
  • Energy-saving stoves – Skills to design and construct stoves that use less fuel, emit less smoke, and protect health.
  • Nursery bed establishment – Techniques for setting up tree nurseries to support reforestation efforts.

Day 3: Taking Action – Tree Planting for a Greener Future

The final day was dedicated to practical environmental restoration. Together with the participants, the team:

  • Planted fruit trees at Kigarama Primary School to promote nutrition and environmental education for children.
  • Planted indigenous tree species to restore local biodiversity and improve soil health.

Impact & Way Forward

By the end of the training, participants not only gained new knowledge but also left empowered with practical toolsto implement climate-smart solutions in their homes and communities. These women are now better equipped to lead initiatives in forest restoration, clean energy adoption, and climate resilience—creating a ripple effect of positive change across Kabarole District.

This training reaffirmed that grassroots women are powerful change agents in building a climate-resilient future. With continued support, these efforts will contribute significantly to environmental restoration and sustainable livelihoods in the region.
